# Cost Disputes Management

> Cost Disputes Management turns audited carrier invoice discrepancies into disputes and tracks them to recovery, available on request.

**Available on request.**

## Summary

Cost Disputes Management lets you raise, file and track carrier billing disputes from the discrepancies Shipping Cost Audit has already found, instead of managing them in spreadsheets, emails and phone calls. Each dispute carries its evidence, its status and the amount recovered, so recovery is reported per carrier and per invoice.

## Who it’s for

Finance and logistics teams who dispute overcharges with carriers and today lose track of what was filed, what the carrier answered and what was credited back. It is for brands already running [Shipping Cost Audit](https://developers.perform.ai/products/logistics/shipping-cost-audit.md), because the dispute evidence comes from the rate card and invoice data in their account.

## Key benefits

* **Disputes start from the audit.** Discrepancies on an invoice are reviewed by category (weight, volumetric weight, surcharge, service mismatch, unexplained difference) and you choose to accept or dispute each group, with a recommended action pre-selected.
* **The evidence is generated for you.** A dispute produces a CSV listing each shipment, the reason, the expected and invoiced amounts and the variance, plus a draft email ready to send to the carrier from your own inbox.
* **One list of every open dispute.** The Dispute Overview shows status, invoice number, shipment count, categories, disputed amount, days open and recovered amount per dispute, with ageing highlights for disputes open longer than 30 and 60 days.
* **Credits are applied, not forgotten.** An accepted dispute records the carrier’s credit note into a carrier credit balance that you apply against a future invoice from the same carrier.

## How it works

A dispute is raised on a single invoice or in bulk across several invoices, one dispute per invoice. It opens in status Open with its CSV and draft email; carrier replies you forward to a dedicated address attach to the dispute and move it to Active. You record the outcome manually as Accepted (with the credit note ID and recovered amount), Rejected (with the reason) or Cancelled, and a rejected dispute can be reopened, re-submitted with new evidence or escalated. Submission to the carrier is done by you; the platform does not file or email the carrier on your behalf.
