# AI Report Builder

> Describe a report in plain language and AI Report Builder proposes the charts and filters, refines them with you and saves it to Business Intelligence.

**Available to all AI Decision Intelligence customers on request.** AI Report Builder is switched on per account by your account team, for users with the Administrator role who have access to Business Intelligence and AI Navigator.

## Summary

AI Report Builder turns a plain-language request, such as “SLA compliance by carrier last month” or “transit time in Germany last quarter”, into a Business Intelligence report. It proposes an outline of the report name, charts and filters, refines it with you in conversation, and saves the finished report to your reports list, editable like any other.

## Who it’s for

Anyone who knows what they want to see but not which charts to put together: a new logistics manager, a leader who asked a follow-up question the current report does not answer, or a team whose report was built by someone who has since left.

## Key benefits

* **No chart library fluency needed.** Describe the report, or pick a suggested prompt, and the outline is proposed for you.
* **Nothing is created until you confirm.** You review the proposed name, charts and filters, change them in conversation as many times as needed, and only then generate the report.
* **It asks rather than guesses.** When a request is ambiguous, AI Report Builder asks a clarifying question with selectable options and a free-text alternative.
* **Reached from anywhere.** Start from the reports page or ask AI Navigator from any page of the portal, including from inside a conversation already in progress.
* **It only uses what you have.** The outline is built from charts already enabled for your account.

## How it works

### Describing a report

When AI Report Builder is enabled, creating a report in Business Intelligence opens on a text field with example prompt chips to start from. The manual and template routes remain available on the same screen. After you submit, you are taken into AI Navigator, where the proposed outline is shown as a card for review.

| Step | What happens |
| - | - |
| Request | You type what you want to see, or select an example prompt. |
| Outline | AI Report Builder proposes a report name, the charts and the filters. |
| Refine | You add or remove a chart, change a filter or rename the report in conversation, for as many rounds as needed. Where the request is ambiguous, it asks a clarifying question. |
| Confirm | You confirm by message (for instance “looks good”) or with the outline card’s **Generate Report** action. |
| Result | A named report appears in your reports list, and the confirmation message links to it. The report is edited afterwards with the standard report tools. |

If generation fails after a confirmed outline, you are offered a retry and no partial report is created.

### Refine with AI

From a generated report, the **Refine with AI** action opens a new outline session seeded from that report’s current name, filters and charts. Describe what should change: add a chart, remove a chart, change a filter to a new carrier or market, widen the date window, rename the report. The same outline, refine and generate flow follows.

### Through AI Navigator

AI Report Builder is delivered through AI Navigator, so a report can be requested from any page of the portal and from inside a conversation already running: ask about a shipment, ask what else looks like it, then ask for a report covering what you found.

### Limits

* AI Report Builder assembles reports from existing charts enabled for your account. It does not create new chart types and does not analyse or explain why a number moved.
* It cannot see the filters or selections on the page you are viewing when you ask from elsewhere in the portal. Describe what you need in words.

## Set up in the portal

Go to **AI Decision Intelligence** > **Business Intelligence**.

1. Start a new report. With AI Report Builder enabled, the page opens on the text field.
2. Type the report you want, or select an example prompt, and submit.
3. In AI Navigator, review the proposed name, charts and filters. Reply to add or remove charts, change filters or rename the report.
4. Confirm with a message such as “looks good” or select **Generate Report** on the outline card.
5. Open the report from the link in the confirmation message, or find it in your reports list.

To change an existing report the same way, open it and select **Refine with AI**. To ask from anywhere else in the portal, open AI Navigator and describe the report you want.

## FAQ

### How do I create a report with AI?

Start a new report from the reports list and describe what you want in plain language, or ask AI Navigator directly from anywhere in the portal. Review the outline and confirm.

### Can I change the report before it is created?

Yes. After the outline is proposed, keep chatting to add or remove charts, change filters or rename the report, as many times as needed, before confirming.

### Can I edit a report after it is created by chatting?

Use **Refine with AI** on the report to open a new outline session from its current state, then describe your changes and confirm.

### What happens if it cannot work out what I want?

It asks a clarifying question with selectable options and a free-text alternative, rather than guessing.

### Can it build a report from what I am looking at on another page?

No. It has no visibility of the current screen’s filters or selections when the request comes from elsewhere in the portal. Describe what you need directly.

### Why don’t I see this option?

AI Report Builder is switched on per account and per role. Contact your account team to have it enabled.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| Creating a report opens on the chart picker, not a text field | AI Report Builder is not enabled for your account or role | Contact your account team. |
| The outline does not include a chart I expected | The chart is not enabled for your organisation; only enabled charts are proposed | Ask your account team to enable the chart, then refine the outline. |
| Generation failed after I confirmed | A generation error; no partial report is created | Select the retry action. |
| The report does not reflect the filters I had set on another page | Requests from elsewhere in the portal do not carry the current page’s filters | State the filters in your request. |
