# Product Visibility

> Product Visibility shows which of your product models AI assistants recommend and how they compare with competitor products attribute by attribute.

**Available to all AI Commerce Visibility customers.**

## Summary

Product Visibility, the **Product** tab in AI Commerce Visibility, shows which specific product models AI assistants suggest when shoppers ask for a product recommendation in your category, and how each model compares with competitor products on the attributes that matter, such as cushioning and weight for running shoes. It tells you whether your best products are part of the conversation at all.

## Who it’s for

Merchandising, product marketing and e-commerce teams. A brand can be well known while a specific model is left out of AI answers because of one attribute, and only a model-level view shows which product is winning, which is invisible, and why.

## Key benefits

* **Model-level, not brand-level.** The tab lists every product model named in the responses, so you can compare your flagship with a competitor's model rather than brand with brand.
* **Attributes you choose.** Up to five product attributes per category, proposed from how the category is discussed online and editable by you, so the comparison matches what shoppers ask about.
* **Only recommended products appear.** The ranked list is filtered to models that AI assistants actually mention, so you see what shoppers using an assistant would discover.
* **You see the sources behind a model.** The product detail panel lists the publications and articles the assistants drew on for that model's attributes.
* **Every number is traceable.** **View Prompts** on any chart opens the prompts, answers and sources behind it.

## How it works

### Data used

The Product tab uses only prompts in the Product prompt category, for instance "Which running shoe has the best cushioning?", plus the product attribute prompts that compare models on one attribute. Visibility, Ranking and Sentiment are defined as on the [Brand tab](https://developers.perform.ai/products/ai-commerce-visibility/brand-visibility.md) and shown per AI assistant, with benchmarking tables, trend lines, a competitor comparison toggle and the standard filters for product category, market, AI model, competitors, persona and previous period.

### Product attributes

| Rule | Detail |
| - | - |
| Source | AI Commerce Visibility proposes attributes for the category from the content where the category is discussed: reviews, product descriptions, editorial content and specifications. |
| Configurable | Yes. Up to five attributes per category, set under **Configuration** > **Product Category**. You can replace the proposals with the attributes that match your own selling points. |
| Category-specific | Attributes differ per category: cushioning and weight for running shoes, battery life and camera quality for smartphones. |
| Overall value | A product's overall position is the average of its attribute values. |

### Attribute radar and table

* **Attribute radar.** Plots your product models against competitor models on each attribute, with a current versus previous period view.
* **Attribute table.** One percentage per attribute per model, colour coded, with a trend against the previous period. Select a competitor model to compare it with your own.
* **Attribute explanation.** Expand an attribute row to read why the value differs from the selected competitor product. Product explanations aggregate the reasoning across your full model range, so they describe your brand's position on that attribute rather than a single model.

### Ranked product list

A table of every product model named in the responses: rank, brand and model, average value, and the value per attribute. Models that AI assistants do not mention are left out. The list is searchable by brand and model, sortable by any attribute and paginated.

### Product detail panel

Selecting a model opens a panel that ranks it against the top competitor models per attribute. Expanding an attribute shows the three models that lead on it across the category. A citations section lists the publications and articles the assistants drew on for that model, with the count per source and links to the articles.

### Why visibility matters at model level

A model with strong reviews and strong attributes can still be absent from AI answers. When the assistants have not picked up a model, for instance a new release, they keep recommending the previous one. The ranked list and the attribute values show when the assistants start naming the new model.

## Set up in the portal

Configure product attributes first, then read the tab.

1. Go to **AI Commerce Visibility** > **Configuration** > **Product Category**, open the category and set up to five product attributes. Save.
2. Go to **AI Commerce Visibility** > **Product** and select the product category at the top of the page.
3. Read the Visibility, Ranking and Sentiment charts, then scroll to the ranked product list and search for your own models.
4. Select a model to open its detail panel, expand an attribute to see the leading models, and scroll to the citations to see which articles informed the assistants.
5. Select **View Prompts** on any chart to open the prompts and answers behind it.

## FAQ

### Are the product attributes fixed, or can I choose them?

They are configurable. AI Commerce Visibility proposes the most relevant attributes for the category, and you can replace them with up to five attributes that match your own selling points, under **Configuration** > **Product Category**.

### Do I need to upload my product catalogue?

No. Product models are identified from the AI assistants' answers to the category's prompts.

### Why is one of my products missing from the list?

The list only shows models that AI assistants mention in their responses. A model that is missing was not recommended for the category's prompts in the selected period, market and assistants. Check the prompts behind the chart with **View Prompts** to see which models the assistants named instead.

### My product has a different name in different markets. Is it counted once?

Use the Market filter to read the results for one market at a time.

### How is a product’s overall position calculated?

It is the average of the product's attribute values, so a model that leads on cushioning but trails on weight sits in the middle of the list.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| The attributes on the tab are not the ones you care about | The category's product attributes were left at the proposed values | Edit the attributes under **Configuration** > **Product Category**, up to five, and allow the next scheduled run to apply them. |
| Your new model does not appear while the previous model does | AI assistants have not yet picked up the new model | Watch the ranked list over the following runs; it shows when the assistants start naming the new model. Use the Sources tab to see which sources the assistants use for the category. |
| A product appears under a competitor's name | Product models are identified from the assistants' answers | Check the responses with **View Prompts** to see how the assistants named the product. |
| Values changed after switching category | Product attributes are set per category | This is expected. Each category has its own attributes. |
