# Brand Visibility

> Brand Visibility shows how often and how AI assistants mention your brand against competitors when shoppers ask about brands in your category.

**Available to all AI Commerce Visibility customers.**

## Summary

Brand Visibility, the **Brand** tab in AI Commerce Visibility, shows whether your brand comes up when shoppers ask AI assistants about brands in your product category, where it is placed relative to competitors when it does, how positively it is described, and which brand attributes the assistants emphasise. The same three measures, Visibility, Ranking and Sentiment, also appear on the Dashboard across all prompt categories.

## Who it’s for

Marketing and brand teams who want to measure brand awareness in AI answers and see which attributes drive the recommendations. Being left out of a "best brands" answer means never competing on product or price, and this tab shows whether that is happening and why.

## Key benefits

* **You see your share of the answer.** Visibility shows how often your brand appears in responses to brand prompts, per AI assistant and against each tracked competitor.
* **You see where you are placed.** Ranking shows how prominently your brand is positioned when it is named, taking into account how many brands the answer listed.
* **You see how you are described.** Sentiment shows how positively AI assistants describe your brand, per assistant, from the content and reviews they draw on.
* **You see which attributes matter.** The attribute radar and table show the brand attributes AI assistants emphasise for your category, such as sustainability or durability, and how you compare with each competitor on each one.
* **Every number is traceable.** **View Prompts** on any chart opens the prompts, answers and sources behind it.

## How it works

### The three measures

The Brand tab uses only prompts in the Brand prompt category, for instance "What are the best running shoe brands in Germany?". The Dashboard combines the Brand, Product, Merchant and Trust prompt categories into one view.

| Measure | What it shows |
| - | - |
| Visibility (0 to 100%) | How often your brand appears in AI assistant responses out of all prompts executed. If your brand appears in 60 of 100 responses, Visibility is 60%. |
| Ranking (0 to 100%) | How prominently your brand is placed when it is mentioned, taking into account both its position in the answer and how many brands the answer named. Second of fifty brands counts for more than second of five, and not being mentioned lowers the value. |
| Sentiment (0 to 10) | How positively AI assistants describe your brand, from the reviews and online content they reference. Values near 10 mean a strongly positive description; values near 0 mean neutral or negative context. |

Visibility comes before Ranking: a brand with no Visibility cannot have a Ranking.

### Charts and benchmarking tables

Each measure has a bar chart by AI assistant, with one bar per brand, and a benchmarking table beside it. The table ranks every tracked brand by the measure, with the current value and the change against the previous period. A **Compare Competitors** toggle switches between the competitor overlay and your brand alone. Trend lines show how each measure changed over the selected date range.

The percentage under each AI assistant's name on the chart is that assistant's share of AI shopping usage, so you can see which assistants matter most for your shoppers.

### Filters

| Filter | What it does |
| - | - |
| Product category | Switches the whole tab to one of your configured categories. |
| Market | Narrows to one market, for instance United States, United Kingdom or Germany. |
| LLM model | Narrows to one AI assistant. |
| Competitors | Narrows the comparison to selected competitor brands. |
| Persona | Re-renders every chart and table through one persona's prompts. See [Personas](https://developers.perform.ai/products/ai-commerce-visibility/personas.md). |
| Compare to | Shows the previous period alongside the current one. |

### Brand attributes

Brand attributes are identified automatically from what AI assistants emphasise when they recommend brands in the selected category, for instance market performance, sustainability, reliability or customer experience. They are not configurable, and they change when you switch categories: innovation may matter for electronics while sustainability matters for fashion.

* **Attribute radar.** Plots your brand against the selected competitor on each attribute.
* **Attribute table.** Shows a percentage per attribute, relative to the tracked competitors, with colour coding and a trend against the previous period. A value of 97% means AI assistants describe you as leading on that attribute compared with the tracked competitors. A dash means the assistants did not find enough information about your brand on that attribute.
* **Competitor comparison.** Select any competitor to compare its attribute values with yours.
* **Attribute explanation.** Expand an attribute row to read a short explanation of why the value differs from the selected competitor: which brand leads, by how much, and what drives the difference on each side. The explanation is built from the reasoning each AI assistant gave and reflects the competitor and assistants currently selected.

### Ranked brand list

A table of every brand named in the responses, with rank, average value and the value per attribute. It is sortable by any column, searchable and paginated, so you can find your own brand or spot a brand that leads on one attribute.

### Reading the patterns

| Pattern | What it looks like | What it means |
| - | - | - |
| High Ranking, low Visibility | AI assistants place you well when they name you, but rarely name you | The opportunity is in appearing more often, not in how you are described. |
| High Visibility, low Sentiment | You are mentioned often, but the content the assistants find is mixed | Look at the sources behind the mentions on the Sources tab. |
| Attribute blind spot | Competitors have values on an attribute where you show a dash | The assistants cannot find information about your brand on that attribute, so they leave you out of that part of the answer. |
| Different values per assistant | Visibility or Sentiment is high on one assistant and low on another | Each assistant draws on different sources. The Sources tab shows which. |

## Set up in the portal

No configuration is needed beyond an active product category. Go to **AI Commerce Visibility** > **Brand**.

1. Select the product category at the top of the page, then narrow by market, AI model, competitors or persona.
2. Read the Visibility, Ranking and Sentiment charts and their benchmarking tables. Turn on **Compare to** to see the change against the previous period.
3. In the attribute table, select a competitor to compare attribute by attribute, and expand an attribute row for the explanation.
4. Select **View Prompts** on any chart to open the prompts and answers behind it.

## FAQ

### Can I change the attributes on the radar chart?

No. Brand attributes are determined from what AI assistants emphasise for your category. Product attributes, on the Product tab, can be configured, up to five per category.

### Why does my Visibility differ so much between AI assistants?

Each assistant draws on different sources and weighs them differently, so your content may reach one assistant and not another. Use the LLM model filter to look at each one, and the Sources tab to see which sources each assistant cites.

### How far back does the data go?

Data collection starts when a product category is activated. Period comparisons become available as data accumulates.

### What does a dash in the attribute table mean?

AI assistants did not find enough information about your brand on that attribute to describe it. Competitors with a value on the same attribute have content the assistants can find.

### Where do the numbers on the Dashboard come from?

The Dashboard combines the Brand, Product, Merchant and Trust prompt categories. The Brand tab uses only Brand prompts, so its values differ from the Dashboard. Select **View Prompts** on any chart to see the prompts behind it.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| The Brand tab is empty | No product category is active, or the first scheduled run has not completed | Activate a category under **Configuration** > **Product Category** and allow one to two hours. |
| Values on the Brand tab do not match the Dashboard | The Dashboard combines all prompt categories; the Brand tab uses Brand prompts only | Compare like with like, or export the data, which breaks results out by prompt category. |
| A competitor is missing from the benchmarking table | The competitor is not configured for this category | Add it to the category's competitors under **Configuration** > **Product Category**. |
| The attributes changed after switching category | Brand attributes are determined per category | This is expected. Each category has its own brand attributes. |
| Clicking different areas of a chart gives the same prompts | Filtering to one AI assistant by clicking a bar is not available | Use the LLM model filter at the top of the page instead. |
